Ms. Brucie Ball, Assistant Superintendent, Office of Special Education and Psychological Services, Miami-Dade Public Schools, lost her valiant fight against cancer on June 26, 2008. On this day, our community lost a great leader and mentor.

Throughout her courageous battle, Brucie maintained her strength of spirit and sense of humor. Those who kept close contact with her know how much effort went into every email and message on her web-site. Once faced with this challenge, Brucie turned on her charm and assumed responsibility for the quality not only of her actions but also of her attitude and that is a lifetime discipline. At the end with grace and eloquence she helped us discover that the real journey begins in the mirror.

Brucie was a strong advocate of parent involvement and was instrumental in the implementation of Parent to Parent of Miami’s cooperative agreement with the school system. In celebration of Brucie’s life we ask you to plant a seed of hope and encouragement by supporting the “Brucie Ball Scholarship Fund.”

The Brucie Ball Scholarship Fund will provide one time financial assistance for college or camp programs. Students with disabilities attending Miami-Dade County Public Schools will have an opportunity to submit their application by mail or online.  Online application will be available November 1, 2009.
