Hello,
We are relocating to South Miami and I have children from elementary to high school. Can someone tell us the best schools in the same zone?
Thanks vallihar

Hello,
I wanted to answer your question in case you do not get a reply right away. Your question is a good one but difficult to answer. You will get different answers. I would say that you need to visit the schools in your area and ask about programs, extra-curricular activities, schedule of courses in the upper grades(example block schedule is very challenging for many kids), etc. If your child or children have an IEPs, make certain that you discuss services and supports. As a staff member of Parent to Parent of Miami, I cannot recomment a school, perhaps other parents seeing this may make suggestions for you. Good luck and remember one of the most important keys is to create a good report with the teachers and administrators.

Hi,
I don't know whether your still interested in finding out about schools in the area, but let me know if you are. Maybe I can help with specific questions that can pave the way for you.
In general you can go to the MDCPS site (Miami Dade Public School) and look up charter schools and magnets. I prefer them to regular classrooms. The site also has a school grading, to see if the school is meeting DOE (Dept of Education) standards. They're graded by letter grades each year. Coral Reef High School is a mega magnet high school. It is a multiple magnet school. All they have are magnets. I know you have to put in your application in advance to gain entry into magnet schools, so it may not be an immediate option for you, but it's something that you can plan for in the future. There is an abundance of magnet schools and charter schools in the south area of Miami, so your in a good location. And FYI, each magnet and charter school has it's own criterion for entrance. You don't necessarily have to be a gifted student, nor a talented or accomplished one to meet entrance requirements, sometimes students are accepted based on their interest and potential, motivation and personality. Here is one of the MDCPS site pages you might want to look at:

Welcome and good luck,
