How We Can Help
Parent to Parent of Miami provides families with information, resources, support, coaching and advocacy needed to help every child and adult with a disability succeed at home, school and within their community.
Starting the Process
If you are concerned there may be a developmental delay with your child or he/she has received a medical diagnosis, Parent to Parent of Miami is here to help you navigate the challenges of parenting children and adults with special needs at any stage and throughout their lives.
For families with children
Ages 0 - 3
Areas of Support
- Concerns related to development and growth of your baby
- Connect you with the Early Intervention Program for screening and evaluation.
- Support at your Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) meeting
- Information about therapy service providers
- Recreational activities and programs for babies and toddlers
- Guide you with the transition from Early Intervention Program Services to the school of our choice
- Support for your child’s transition from Early Steps to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Pre-K program for children with disabilities
- Series of workshops to increase knowledge about your child’s special needs and laws and regulations that protect your child and family.
Ages 3 - 4
Areas of Support
- Concerns related to development and growth of your toddler
- Connect you with FDLRS/Child Find for developmental assessments and evaluations
- Information about your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) at school
- Accompany you to your child’s EP meeting at school
- Prepare you to effectively transition from the Pre-K Programs to Kindergarten
- Series of workshops to increase knowledge about your child’s special needs and laws and regulations that protect your child and family.
Ages 5 - 12
Areas of Support
- We will help you understand how the Multi-Tier System of Support and the response to intervention (MTSS-RTI) can help your child succeed in class.
- How a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Social Emotional- Behavioral Intervention Plan (SE-BIP) can lead to academic success.
- Eligibility determination to access services and supports under IDEA & 504
- Advocacy and support to help your child receive appropriate supports and accommodations under IDEA (IEP) & 504 Plan
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) review for possible revisions
- Middle School years are critical! We will provide guidance with your child’s Transition into Middle School.
Ages 13 - 18
Areas of Support
- How a Functional Assessment of Behavior and Behavioral Intervention Plans can lead to academic success
- Eligibility determination to access services and supports under (IDEA & 504)
- Ensure your child’s receives appropriate supports and accommodations under IDEA (IEP) & 504 Plan
- IEP revision
- Graduation requirements for standard diploma and Standard diploma via Access Courses
- Guidance with post-secondary education, employment and independent living options
- How to access Vocational Rehab services and supports
Ages 19 - 22+
Areas of Support
- College/Technical/Employment/Independent Living
- Program options for students/adults with disabilities after age twenty-two
- Recreational and other activities for adults with disabilities
- Independent Living and Housing options
- Housing options for medically complexed adults with disabilities
- Guardianship, Financial Planning and Special Needs Trust
- Help accessing community services like social security benefits, Medicaid Waiver services, Special Transportation Services (STS)
Providing the Right Support
By working with one of our Education and Support Specialists, parents will:

Increase their knowledge of their child’s disability.

Improve their awareness of services available in the community that meet their child’s special needs.

Become more involved with their child’s education and school.

Receive information on how to better provide a home environment that is conducive to learning and optimal physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

Learn more about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (I.D.E.A) and how it applies to their child’s education.

Join a network of other parents that have children with special needs.

Gain awareness and learn how to take action in supporting policy and legislative issues relevant to the quality of life for children with disabilities and their families.
